Metabolic liver disease is rapidly increasing worldwide , with experts warning that it will affect an estimated 1.8 billion people by 2050. This alarming prediction is mainly attributed to the increase in obesity and blood sugar levels.

The condition, known as metabolic steatohepatitis (MASLD), is the new name for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and is now among the most common and rapidly increasing liver disorders worldwide.

Impressive growth over three decades

According to the latest figures, around 1.3 billion people are currently living with metabolic fatty liver disease, a 143% increase from 30 years ago. This means that almost 1 in 6 people worldwide are affected by the disease.
